FAZ COSAFA DIARY: Chipolopolo Get Down to Work…as Asanovic Invites Youngsters for Mentorship During Camp

Chipolopolo coach Aljosa says he has drafted some promising young talents in preparatory stages of the 2022 Cosafa Cup to help orient them to the philosophy of the senior national team.

And Asanovic says he is happy that local players are working hard ahead of the Cosafa tournament that kicks off next week in Durban.

The Croat has handed some under-20 stars for the domestic camp on the recommendation of junior national team coaches.

“We want to see the young guys; they are the future of Zambian teams and clubs. We want to see the talent of the guys whenever we have a chance. We will always call them,” said Asanovic after the morning training session held at Barca Academy.

Some teen stars like Kings Mutandwa who set the Central Province league alight with his goal scoring exploits ahs been honoured with an invitation alongside Chrales Majapa.

The 1998 World Cup star said that the players were putting in hundred percent in training.

“I am so happy about the start to the camp and the guys are so happy to be here. They are enjoying preparing for the Cosafa and we are just waiting for the start to the competition,” he said.

“The motivation is always to be better in every game and competition and, I have said so many times that I believe in the local guys. The local guys work hard and want to be on a high level. I am so happy with what I have seen.”

Asanovic said that he was unfazed despite Zambia not yet knowing their opponents for their quarterfinal clash.

The Chipolopolo will await winners of Group A that comprises Angola, Seychelles, Comoros, and Botswana.
“We are waiting, we do not know exactly the opponent, but we will be ready for any opponent. We are going there to play very well and make a good result. We need games before the CHAN and the Cosafa is a great opportunity for us,” he said.

He has also urged fans to rally behind the team as it participates in various competitions.

Asanovic will trim his final squad to 23 in the final stages of the preparation.
